History of music videos

Over years music videos have changed dramatically and a huge part of why this has been able to happen is due to the changes and adaptations of technology upgrades and changes of improvements. We are lucky now we have amazing things such as green screens which makes it possible to create the kind of videos we see now day.

It shows how music went from being in musical films and promotional clips to there being more of TV's in the 1956 time which it then lead towards more technology and things like iTunes and YouTube where they are full of music videos.

Micheal Jackson
1982 would have also of been an important time when a video that almost everyone recognises would be Micheal Jackson's 'Thriller' where it is a mixture of narrative and thriller as there is a story behind it that goes with the lyrics but also there is a element of performance as he is shown close up several times singing, also he does performance as he dances throughout and performs a routine. This was one of the newer updated music videos for around that time.

 Iggy Azalea - Work

This is far more new and in the current era but this shows how much music videos have changed, this video is far more sexual and for a 'sexual appeal' . In videos similar to this which are more likely to be created now they are far more advanced with big sets being created to film on or even more advanced green screens are being more and more frequently used.

I believe that music videos will continue to improve and become better and advance as the technology does. I feel that the next improvements to be made will be similar to the virtual headset feel so people will feel like they're there and are the ones doing the movements. They will be far more obvious for the audience to use their imaginations and fall into the music video themselves.

Some days people just watch the videos just to see what is being shown and their aesthetics instead of the actual music and lyrics themselves.

Again this picture below shows the music video industry how it developed and what was introduced when...

Textual Analysis - Sia Chandelier

Sia Chandelier This music video is mainly well known for its  choreography as this is a memorable factor, there is no lip syncing - it is just literally Maddie dancing to the meaning of the song. Performance –  Sia doesn't like to star in her own videos, she has Maddie Ziegler a young girl who dancers throughout for her as a dancer. The performance is of Maddie dancing all around an abandoned, neglected location which is dirty and unpleasant. Lyrics -   The words "swinging from a chandelier" is usually know as a metaphor for partying to excess. As she states in the lyrics "party girls don't get hurt" so if she keeps drinking she won't feel the pain that addictions can eventually give.  She si...

Textual analysis of Toxic - Britney Spears

Britney Spears TOXIC Performance – When she is on the phone, it acts as if she is telling the story whereas the shots of her in her white suit is aimed to be more sexual and less story based. She performs every now and then in her see through suit where she dances and its quicker shots. Whereas when she’s walking on the plane its longer shots and slower crops, the shot on the plane tells more of a narrative. She is sexualised throughout the whole of the music video; however, some parts are more sexualised than others are. Shown by the costumes she is in and also movements, she is quite confident and out there, giving her a powerful image. Although the plane is filled with men she is dominant over them. Lyrics - Helps tell the story or give a general feeling or mood. Don...
