What a music video is
A music video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. They are usually used to promote a music recordings and will hopefully encourage the audience to buy the single or album that it is on as when you hear the song you will think of the video, the more intriguing the video is the more likely someone is to keep listening to it.
So what is the purpose of a music video...
The purpose of a music video -
Music videos have such a huge range of filming making techniques, some are animated, some may be more live filming of a performance ad some are staged performances. Some music videos mix these techniques together depending on what the purpose of the video is for or the meaning.
They can be categorised into different types -
- Performance
- Narrative (story)
- Mixed (performance and narrative)
- Cameo (artist is in narrative but doesn't sing/perform)
- Animation (not real - maybe done on computers)
