Equipment/Lighting decisions in our music video

Lighting is very important in music videos, as it allows it to be easier to see and also as it sets certain moods and atmospheres. An example of this would be, if we used low amount of lighting then it'll be setting a dull and sad atmosphere which would help highlight the meaning behind the song is not a positive atmosphere. Also the other way round as well, as if a large amount of colour is used then it'll set a more upbeat atmosphere and show that they're more likely to be given a positive media video to see.

Jessie J clip

Here is a clip of Jessie J where she has dull lighting which represents the atmosphere as dull and an unhappy situation. The song is of a sad subject, it is negative song lyrics, this is helped by the lighting as its all dull however she is shown with a little more light over her so that she is highlighted as the main

This music video gives an impression of a dull meaning behind it just by the setting and equipment used in the shots, this is because there is minimal use of props and equipment therefore it is giving a simple feeling. The colours are very plain and there is no colours to bring a positive emotion to the shot.

Our music video

In our music video we took into account the lighting and equipment we would use. We thought about the meaning of our song and we thought how that would be shown through lighting. We decided that the type of lighting   would incorporate into our music video. We also decided on equipment, we didn't want much equipment involved in ours. We didn't want to rely on equipment we used shots more than anything.

In our music video we didn't use any equipment other than an artist and the background location we shot in. We didn't need to use any equipment within ours although most people would use equipment in their music video.  Our lighting has a slightly different effect on them and normal lightning on the other shots of the artist singing. This is to give a 'memory' effect on the shots of the couple showing a narrative. This helps differentiate the difference between the old memories and the song being sung by the artist.

We only use two different colours, one is the sepia effect and the other one is the original lighting from when we filmed. We wanted to keep it simple and plain so that we could show the different shots and scenes much easier.

This is to show the artist on the main page and this is because that is what her fans want to see when they click onto her website. The use of the male gaze is used as she is seen drawing attention to her lips by holding up the flower to her mouth. This is so that she hits both genders in different ways. There is also a navigation bar featuring white headings that when you hoover over them they underline and this is to help you navigate your way around the website easily. Evaluation 1 - In what ways do your music product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

A shot that shows a link between lyrics and/or music and visuals.  One point during the song the lyrics are 'catching fire as the wind blows'. We have used a clip within our video where we have tried to portray those lyrics. This was done through the use of a candle and a girl blowing the candle out. The girl represents the wind whilst the candle represents the fire. A shot that typifies the way a record company would want their artist to be represented. The record company would want the artist to be represented in a way that teenagers can relate them. This is very apparent as the girl in the video wants to feel loved and you could interpret it as she has gone through a break up. Something in which every teenager at some point in their life has experienced. A shot that illustrates how your video uses music genre Typically the video genre is actually techno, but we have interprete...
