This music video there is no lip syncing within the whole
duration of the video. When it comes to the lyrics it says “Walking home”
repetitively which goes with what is being displayed by the boy walking
throughout in a forward direct towards somewhere. In this video it is the
visual that reflects the story and what is happening. The video is a narrative
as he tells the story of the song.
The music is just a track there is no other music or sounds
added in or produced during the music is played. The music is just played
alongside the visual video, which is a narrative video. The style of music
would be classed as indie music this can be recognised by the style of clothing
worn.
The camera shots are very unsteady which ruins the video as it
is not effective as none of the shots are still. If some shots were unsteady
for effect hen that would work well but not when all of the shots are unsteady.
There are too many hand held shots as this is what makes it so shaky. However, there is a vast amount of shots and
there is a variety of them which makes it more interesting as an audience as
there is different shots to comfort different visuals. There is a nice over the
shoulder shot in this video which is done very well by the camera work. The shots don't really transition with the music and the cinematography doesn't reflect the tempo.
There is
a big negative throughout this video, which is that he walks away from the
camera a lot. He is never facing the camera, which is most probably why he
wasn’t able to lip sync, therefore was missing a crucial part of what it was
meant to include. As well as this there was a lot of blurry shots which were
just unneeded, they were unnecessary in this situation.
Editing, was done ok overall. It was the thing that brought
the music video together, the colour palette at the beginning was used really
well. There was a fade shot which wasn’t used in the best place it was out of
place, it didn’t work very well. The editing wasn’t particularly in line with
the narrative therefore making it not very effective, the editing didn’t match
the narrative. However, it did match the tempo which was done to a good
standard. There is a fade and dissolve which looks out of place.
Intertextuality was not shown hugely within this music video
but it is shown when the boy, the actor, has his phone shown closely and shows
his home screen which is a film poster background. This wouldn’t necessarily be
picked up particularly well by a viewer or audience when watching or maybe
watching the music video the first time round.
There was no close ups of the artist or singer. The main boy
who was performing wasn’t shown close up or face on. If this was a mainstream
music video then it’d have far more close ups or recognition of the artist,
however in this video it doesn’t peruse the ‘mainstream’ vibe.
In this voyeurism isn’t really something like a sexual
attraction etc. In this case it is more the fact that a teenage boy can relate
to the boy in the music video as they may be able to have empathy for him and
understand the song far better. This is also shown that a boy of a teenage age
may be interested in this video or are drawn in as the camera shots are never
too close to the male actor which could be related to by the fact males don’t
particularly like being near anyone.
The representation of the main artist is that he is a middle class boy who is a student or of a teenage age. He feels useless and feels isolated which is shown throughout the visuals of the video. He is also of an English origin.
