Mood board

Our initial ideas

For our mood board which is filled with ideas, we looked at many videos to see which kind of artistes songs we would like to do we also viewed videos that would be easier and more effective for us to video or try and recreate as we are only students therefore we have less equipment and not so much resources to work with. Therefore some of the videos we looked at or ideas we had or received from watching other videos we couldn't do or would have to adapt to fit our equipment time and technology we have in the school.

We then got ideas on the types of videos we would like to recreate for our prelim, we looked at Jess Glynns song " Take me home", as being our final piece to recreate as it was pretty simple and includes a large quantity of lip syncing as most shots includes the lip syncing. However we decided that it wasn't the typical music video with fast cuts full of fun and excitement.

For our actual recreation of a music video we looked at more lively videos, one we had a look at and studied was 'Runaway" which is very up beat and has a funky background with city backgrounds.
Below is a mood board of  ideas we had for our music videos we was intending on recreating. However we would like to do our video completely different location and way, but we would like to keep the shots the same as we like some of the shots used for different parts of the song.

This is our first mood board of ideas from the music video itself. We liked the idea of the lights they stood out and sat nicely with the lyrics of 'running away'  We liked the shot where the main actor of the music video is focused on and the background is all blurry this helps add to the fact that all that going on around them is cancelled out and they are just isolated at the front ignoring all around them.

Also in this mood board there is two close ups placed which is another thing we liked because they are showing the actor upfront showing its a mainstream song, the reason behind liking the close ups is because this song has a lot of lyrics that sound as though its to do with feelings and the close ups help show feelings.

Textual Analysis - Sia Chandelier

Sia Chandelier This music video is mainly well known for its  choreography as this is a memorable factor, there is no lip syncing - it is just literally Maddie dancing to the meaning of the song. Performance –  Sia doesn't like to star in her own videos, she has Maddie Ziegler a young girl who dancers throughout for her as a dancer. The performance is of Maddie dancing all around an abandoned, neglected location which is dirty and unpleasant. Lyrics -   The words "swinging from a chandelier" is usually know as a metaphor for partying to excess. As she states in the lyrics "party girls don't get hurt" so if she keeps drinking she won't feel the pain that addictions can eventually give.  She si...

Textual Analysis- Please don't leave me by Pink

Performance: The performance consists of Pink, the artiste dressed as a nurse, but not your typical hospital nurse. it is more of a sexy nurse outfit, which is suppose to appeal to the male gaze. Lyrics:  The song is about a couple with a a controlling girlfriend that is abusive towards her boyfriend, pushing him away but not wanting him to actually leave her. '   "I always say how I don't need you, but it's always gonna come right back to this, please don't leave me." Genre / mise en scene: The song is a Pop rock, dance pop song. whereas the video genre is horror/thriller. Camerawork: The camera is often seen following Pink, there is often the use of low angle that makes Pink appear powerful. Editing: Often the shots are continuous, especially when they are fighting at the start, they are also quite jumpy and choppy to go with their fast actions. There is a lot of back and forth with the use of continuous to show the set and the scenes. I...

Textual analysis of Toxic - Britney Spears

Britney Spears TOXIC Performance – When she is on the phone, it acts as if she is telling the story whereas the shots of her in her white suit is aimed to be more sexual and less story based. She performs every now and then in her see through suit where she dances and its quicker shots. Whereas when she’s walking on the plane its longer shots and slower crops, the shot on the plane tells more of a narrative. She is sexualised throughout the whole of the music video; however, some parts are more sexualised than others are. Shown by the costumes she is in and also movements, she is quite confident and out there, giving her a powerful image. Although the plane is filled with men she is dominant over them. Lyrics - Helps tell the story or give a general feeling or mood. Don...
