Pete Fraser 10 step theory

The 10 steps of Pete Fraser...

Step 1 - Limber up
Film some test footage
Learn to lip sync
Watch some music videos in the same genre you're doing
Have you got the music and an audible source?

Step 2 - Choose the right track
Choose a song carefully... choose as less well known one
Make it short... around 3m30s
Make sure you won't get bored by listening to the song a lot of times

Step 3 - Write a plan of action
Pitch it as a simple idea
Be realistic with your ideas
Have a clear concept
Get an idea of what the codes and conventions are

Step 4 - Plan for everything
Storyboard
Plan the location, people, props
Aim to shoot with plenty of time

Step 5 - Use the blog properly
Research the genre in detail
Upload all work even screenshots or unfinished/rough cuts etc
Be media rich and include good techniques and language usage

Step 6 - The Shoot
Try and film roughly 3-4 times so you have different footage and different shots
Experiment with a variety of shots and extra angles
Enthuse your performer/artist
Shoot more than you need/plan to need

Step 7 - The raw footage
Break it into manageable chunks
Upload as soon as you can
Be critical with your footage, if it isn't good enough then refilm

Step 8 - The edit
Get the whole picture instead of little details
Cut and cut again
Aim for a dynamic piece of work

Step 9 - Audience feedback
Get feed back as soon as you can and as much as you can
Post links on twitter
Ask for advice

Step 10 - The final polish
Produce an evaluation
Take advice

Equipment/Lighting decisions in our music video

Lighting is very important in music videos, as it allows it to be easier to see and also as it sets certain moods and atmospheres. An example of this would be, if we used low amount of lighting then it'll be setting a dull and sad atmosphere which would help highlight the meaning behind the song is not a positive atmosphere. Also the other way round as well, as if a large amount of colour is used then it'll set a more upbeat atmosphere and show that they're more likely to be given a positive media video to see.  Jessie J clip Here is a clip of Jessie J where she has dull lighting which represents the atmosphere as dull and an unhappy situation. The song is of a sad subject, it is negative song lyrics, this is helped by the lighting as its all dull however she is shown with a little more light over her so that she is highlighted as the main  This music video gives an impression of a dull meaning behind it just by the setting...

Website analysis of Weeknd

Website Home Page The Weekend website has a simple colour scheme of black and white colour shade for the font title, but the actual imagery is a range of greys and blacks to coordinate with the outfit of the man displayed.  The artist is also featured on the page to help establish who the website is promoting.  The navigation bar at the top is white font and when you hoover over them they light up to help suggest to you that these can be clicked.  There is also a hyperlink labeled 'Watch Now' for you to click on that takes you to another page.  The website is aimed at fans of the artist as it also allows you to make a membership, suggesting dedication to the artist. There is a cart option, suggesting fans can purchase merchandise.  Then there is a 'get updates' icon that allows fans to sign up and get notified. This is a great feature as it allows fans to keep in contact and update with their favourite artist. The screenshot below shows a pag...

Editing Diary

This is our editing diary of our filming to keep updated on what we may need to change or re-film etc. What was discarded? We had some ideas that we had kept in our video however they didn't match or look good enough to be shown as a music video, therefore we discarded a few hots we had taken and got rid of them however we kept them for rough cuts. We had to discard these shots in order to get better ones that fitted better. A few things we had planned and put on our story board however when we filmed it we didn't find it effective and didn't think it looked right with the music. What changed? We changed some of our ideas whilst filming as we didn't w ant to stick to exactly what we planned as when we started to film we decided it was a bit boring and repetitive so we wanted to add more shots and locations in, we ended up with more than one location not just the park. Did it go smoothly? Our video as we stared to piece it together for the first time did...
