Here are a few examples of Digipaks and an analysis of them on what is good and what is bad about them. They are a random selection, some in which are of artistes I like and have listened to and others are just randomly picked
The first digipak - Rihanna "LOUD"
The digipak contains just one person, Rihanna herself. She is shown close up on the front with her bold red hair, the picture is a way of grabbing attention.
The striking colours of red allows us to relate it to the title of "LOUD". The way she doesn't give direct eye contact with the camera shows that she is shy or confident however this is contrasted by the tattoo shown on her neck in the same image.
By bringing a song out in the "RnB" genre she has not done the typical image type to show the theme of love instead of the sexual side to it she has shown the innocent side to it, to change it up.
On the cover and also the inside there is a prop of roses which also indicates the idea of love or a love story of some sort.
Good - Use of colours as it relates to the album name as red is bold and bright just like loud is bold.
Bad - No colours other than red and black are used and red and black can have opposite annotations.
Design - The design is successful as the images show the meaning of the songs and the album also.
Colours - The red is really effective as it catches your attention.
Overall - The digipak overall is very successful and it all sits well together.
The second digipak- Katy Perry "Teenage Dream"
The front page of the album just displays Katy Perry... the artist of the song. This is to promote herself as well as the album. She is on the front to be eye catching and also with minimal clothing it is bound to get more attention from males.
The use of blue and pink are both primary colours which shows it is aimed at mainly a teenage age.
The use of the CD design being donuts also portrays to the audience that its innocent sweet heart genre for teens.
On the back of the digipak there is still candyfloss clouds being displayed as the background which shows it is carrying through the same image of sweetness with the song names placed on time. The font is also in a style that gives off a girly image.
Good - Uses of images to show the meaning behind the album.
Bad - Maybe more directed to a female audience, as its pink and "cute" boys may be put off.
Design - The set out is good, everything is in the typical place, close up of artist on the front.
Colours - The colours were well thought out and set the mood of the album well inside and out.
Overall - I think the album sat really nice with the music inside.
