Website analysis of Dua Lipa

Website Home Page

  • The home page features a black and white theme keeping it simple and modern. The photo featured is of the artist 'Dua Lipa'. This is to show the artist on the main page and this is because that is what her fans want to see when they click onto her website.

  • The use of the male gaze is used as she is seen drawing attention to her lips by holding up the flower to her mouth. This is so that she hits both genders in different ways.

  • There is also a navigation bar featuring white headings that when you hoover over them they underline and this is to help you navigate your way around the website easily. By having the navigation at the top and easy to see just means that they're more likely to keep navigating and exploring the website as the navigation bar will be able to show more things to explore when hovered over.

  • There are also a range of social media logos including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Spotify, Apple and emails.  These icons that show these social media are the so that when you're done with her website you'll then move onto a social media page. Therefore she can also advertise her other pages at the same time.

  • The website is mainly aimed at young girls aimed between 14-25 years old. This is because they are the target audience for her songs therefore they'll be the ones that are most likely to access the website and due to the colour scheme but then because of the use of male gaze you could say that the website is also aimed at young males.

There is an arrow pointing down at the bottom of the screen, that when you click on it takes you to an image that features a loop effect. This is a good effect on the website.

Then below that image there is a YouTube video of the latest song that has been released. This also shows tabs above the video that are labelled 'Now Playing', 'All Videos' and 'Playlists'. This is all featured on the home page but as you scroll further down they appear and listed below.

Tours page

There is one tab listed on the navigation bar called 'Live' and when you click on the tab it takes you to a page that lists all the tour dates. This is easy access to tour dates. However, personally i think that it would been less confusing to call the tab tours/ tour dates. As the current tab label is not very clear as to what it links to.

Merchandise/Store
The merchandise tab takes you to a different page on the Dua Lipa website. The range of merchandise is listed and ideal for the audience viewing. Then when you click on the store tab it takes you to a different website completely. This could be seen as an inconvenience for viewers, as they are having to navigate through an unfamiliar looking site.

Purpose of the website
The purpose of the website is to try and keep fans informed of upcoming events and shows, it allows fans to buy merchandise and music from the artist and also allows them to stay connected with their favourite artist.

Is the website efficient and easy for fans to use?
The website overall has an easy to use layout and is convenient for fans to find merchandise, tour dates and up to date information on the artist.

Textual Analysis - Sia Chandelier

Sia Chandelier This music video is mainly well known for its  choreography as this is a memorable factor, there is no lip syncing - it is just literally Maddie dancing to the meaning of the song. Performance –  Sia doesn't like to star in her own videos, she has Maddie Ziegler a young girl who dancers throughout for her as a dancer. The performance is of Maddie dancing all around an abandoned, neglected location which is dirty and unpleasant. Lyrics -   The words "swinging from a chandelier" is usually know as a metaphor for partying to excess. As she states in the lyrics "party girls don't get hurt" so if she keeps drinking she won't feel the pain that addictions can eventually give.  She si...

Textual Analysis- Please don't leave me by Pink

Performance: The performance consists of Pink, the artiste dressed as a nurse, but not your typical hospital nurse. it is more of a sexy nurse outfit, which is suppose to appeal to the male gaze. Lyrics:  The song is about a couple with a a controlling girlfriend that is abusive towards her boyfriend, pushing him away but not wanting him to actually leave her. '   "I always say how I don't need you, but it's always gonna come right back to this, please don't leave me." Genre / mise en scene: The song is a Pop rock, dance pop song. whereas the video genre is horror/thriller. Camerawork: The camera is often seen following Pink, there is often the use of low angle that makes Pink appear powerful. Editing: Often the shots are continuous, especially when they are fighting at the start, they are also quite jumpy and choppy to go with their fast actions. There is a lot of back and forth with the use of continuous to show the set and the scenes. I...

Textual analysis of Toxic - Britney Spears

Britney Spears TOXIC Performance – When she is on the phone, it acts as if she is telling the story whereas the shots of her in her white suit is aimed to be more sexual and less story based. She performs every now and then in her see through suit where she dances and its quicker shots. Whereas when she’s walking on the plane its longer shots and slower crops, the shot on the plane tells more of a narrative. She is sexualised throughout the whole of the music video; however, some parts are more sexualised than others are. Shown by the costumes she is in and also movements, she is quite confident and out there, giving her a powerful image. Although the plane is filled with men she is dominant over them. Lyrics - Helps tell the story or give a general feeling or mood. Don...
