Ideas for our music video

When we first had to come up with ideas we watched a lot of music videos to try and find a source of influence. We had a fair number of ideas that we thought we could use for the performance. The ideas we had included a performance of the artist singing the song, alongside a narrative of a boy and a girls relationship and how they are in love. The flashbacks would be of the boy and girl on dates and romantic moments. Then another was the idea that two friends want to runaway together to get away from the world and start off fresh. One other idea was to film props related to the theme of romance and love. Then another idea was the use of lyrics going on as the artist performed the song, so very much like a lyric video.

Group messages

During the production and filming stages of the media project of making the music video we had to discuss and arrange a lot of things outside of school. We did most of this by mobile phones on i-Message. We discussed days to meet up, who was blogging what posts and what needed to be completed next. By planning by text messages, this made it a lot easier to communicate so that we didn't have any technical difficulties when trying to get through to each other. We found if we messaged just on one place for example over text it mean't we had all messages in one designated area, therefore we were able to go back on messages and check what we had decided for that blog, that day of filming etc. We were also able to share footage over it to one and another so it could be transferred onto the Macbook for editing. Here is a message between myself and Olivia when planning on meet ups, this was on a day we had planned to meet and we had to change it as it was raining and the filming wo

Editing Diary

This is our editing diary of our filming to keep updated on what we may need to change or re-film etc. What was discarded? We had some ideas that we had kept in our video however they didn't match or look good enough to be shown as a music video, therefore we discarded a few hots we had taken and got rid of them however we kept them for rough cuts. We had to discard these shots in order to get better ones that fitted better. A few things we had planned and put on our story board however when we filmed it we didn't find it effective and didn't think it looked right with the music. What changed? We changed some of our ideas whilst filming as we didn't w ant to stick to exactly what we planned as when we started to film we decided it was a bit boring and repetitive so we wanted to add more shots and locations in, we ended up with more than one location not just the park. Did it go smoothly? Our video as we stared to piece it together for the first time did

Reshoots (needs more added)

We decided to do re-shoots especially on parts we video'd right at the beginning when we was still trying to decide on exactly what we needed to film etc before piecing it together to see exactly how it fits.    The point of re- shooting is to let us re film shots that wasn't how we wanted them or to get extra shots, for this reason by re-shooting it allows us to get better shots to improve our music video.  Our first time filming was a bit hit or miss, we had planned it but when filming we didn't know how much to film or if we'd filmed too much. We got some shots that will now be re-shot and them bits of footage will be named as 'test' footage. They will be re filmed so that the shots taken out of the beginning of the video will be filled in and recreated.  We will use our last day planned for filming as a day where we will do any last filming shots, any re-shoots etc so that we can get anything that needs to be altered or redone can be taken out of o

Costumes and props of original

Costumes - Costumes are important because they play a huge role that follows the conventions of a particular genre. This is very commonly used in the music industry. They also help represent the artist in the way they are wanting to express themselves to the audience in. In the music video Runaway itself, it does't have much of a costume as it is mainly blacked out throughout the video as shown below, however there is a big rabbit type head worn by the actor within the music video. The costume in most scenes is hardly seen. It isn't focused on greatly, it isn't the key feature in order to tell the story and explain the lyrics. Props - Props are there to show the conventions of a certain genre and to help present a artist how they want to be seen. Although this is very subtle it allows the audience to get a feel for the background of the song as well as the lyrics. In the original, there isn't many props used as it is mainly all focus on the main artist. There

Our props and costumes

Props - For our props we didn't really want to include much we was aiming for it to be more the artist and a background. For this reason there wouldn't be many props, however when filming these were the props included. Prop wise, we have very limited use of props. However there is the use of a mobile phone and a field which consists of a park bench and trees. As well as a handbag and hoodie. Costumes - In our music video we would like to focus more on the lyrics and demonstrate that through the scenery etc, rather than portraying it how its shown in the original video by Galantis. As the original video does not follow a narrative. The use of colours that we will be using will be dark colours with red. The red represents the idea of love and the colour black is suppose to represent the idea that she is trying to hide away and is on the run. The costume used throughout is very casual and a typical teenager outfit, so what you would expect to see on a teenager. The reason

Diary of DAY TWO filming

Our Second day of filming  The day this took place was 10/10/17 Day - Tuesday Time - 3.30PM Location - Park/fields Length of filming - 1 hour This is to show how the day of our filming turned out. Here we will show what went well/wrong and any problems we received whilst filming. This was our first lot of shots that we filmed. This will be our second lot of filming that we will do once piecing together our shooting for the first part of the song, this is so that we can see if we need to re film any for the first part as well as getting the next shots for the next part of the song. We will get more footage than there is needed so that we have extra footage in case it is needed. We want to have a variety of shots as this is something a music video will always have, a wide range of shots and angles. On our second of shooting here are a few shots we got from our filming -  We re-shot some of our first shots we had taken,we then filmed more footage for later on. However

Settings and Locations

For the Location of the original music video done by Galantis it is set in the city at night showing the bright lights and the night life. We didn't feel that, that location was suited that well for the song or lyrics itself. This is because we felt that the lyrics of Runaway is more of an empty feeling rather than it being in an environment of light up bright colours as presented in the original. The lyrics contradicted the video. In our video we are going to remake we had a few different ideas. After coming up with three realistic ideas of where we could go to change it up a bit we decided on the fields and  grass land as we felt it would give the best atmosphere when mixing with the lyrics. We wanted it to be completely different to the original but top give the same feelings and show the same story the original did. So the location of our music video will be in an open location of land, grassy fields and lots of trees. We thought about this location and decided

Diary of DAY ONE shooting

Our first day of filming  The day this took place was 03/10/17. Day - Tuesday Time - 3.30PM Location - Park/fields Length of filming - 1 hour and 30 minutes This is to show how the day of our filming turned out. Here we will show what went well/wrong and any problems we received whilst filming. This was our first lot of shots that we filmed. On our first day of filming we wanted to just film what we had planned however we did several shots a few times so we had options to choose. This mean't that we would be able to choose the one that looked the most effective and fitted the best. We aim to get roughly the first minute filmed. On our first day of shooting here are a few shots we got from our filming -  We managed to film roughly 1m30s of the music video where we got various shots to create our music video. We had only planned to get the first minutes worth of filming so we managed to get more filming done than expected. We tried to vary our shot types, shot angle

Planning diary

Our Planning Diary The first day of filming would be to capture the majority of the shots, whatever we could get on that day depending if the weather is the correct type of background/location. The second lot of filming would be to get any shots we didn't get or to re film shots. Once putting together the pieces we could arrange a third lot of filming if needed to get extra shots or to change them. Shooting  schedule - First day - Date : 03/10/17 Duration : length needed We will get the long shots  The main close ups of the lip syncing Needed for filming will be the main artiste, who will be lip syncing Also will need the weather as planned The costumes will be the outfit discussed Second day -  Date : 10/10/17 Duration : 2 hours Any needed shots missed out Any changes/re films Same outfit as first shootings Same weather, if not available change the shots Third day -  Date : 25/10/17 Duration : 1 hour If needed for more shooting

Shooting schedule/Call Sheet/Production Schedule

Our schedule  We made a schedule of what we would do on each day of filming and how long we would film for on what days so that we had a clear plan of what we was going to do/film on each day. This means that when we film it'll be easy for us to just go straight into filming. Shooting  day Time of shooting Date of shooting Length of shooting Aim of shooting Location of shooting Day 1 3.30pm 03.10.17 1 hour 30 minutes To get first lot of shots filmed for the beginning Park/fields Day 2 3.30pm 10.10.17 2 hours Rest of shots Park/fields Day 3 3.30pm 11.10.17 1hour Any last/extra shooting or re-shooting Park/fields Our location on all filming is in the same place as we only have one setting/location we wanted it to be therefore the location doesn't change. The aim of the shooting does change on the film day of shooting we just want to get t

Influences and inspirations

Our influences as to why we chose Runaway -  The shots were good as the face is covered which can help the meaning of the lyrics to be shown. The costume choice did stand out and that's one of the things about the video that influenced us and caught our attention as it was different and stood out more as it wasn't just the face. However now its been created as this style with no face shown.  We liked that it was different to most music videos it had a different way of displaying a story line. We liked that the face was hidden and the majority of the shots are a dark silhouette with bright lights in the background. Now we'd like to recreate it but with close up shots of emotions shown however using similar shots as were used in the original as they we're effective but we'd just like to create a different atmosphere. We liked the song before looking into what songs we could recreate... this helped us as we were confident on the lyrics already and it

Storyboard of final music video

This is the storyboard for our final film.

Risk Assessment

The table below is a risk assessment of all the potential hazards that could occur when we are filming. The table states what the hazard is, how it is a risk to us, the likelihood of the hazard occurring, how serve the incident could be and the actions that we could taken to prevent it from occurring. Hazard Risk Likelihood Severity Action Fields long grass The person filming or the person acting could trip over. The likelihood is low as majority of the grass is cut short. The severity of  this  low as the most that could happen could be that you get a grass burn. We could make sure that we watch where we film and be wary of any long grass. Grass snakes There is the risk of grass snakes being in the grass and if we accidentally trod on one it could hiss or bite. Very rare that they bite but still could occur. The likelihood of this is low as they only really come out in the summer. They hibernat
